Boiler Water Treatment

01 / WHY WATER TREATMENT MATTERS
Reliable steam starts with controlled water quality. A boiler-water treatment program helps protect heat-transfer surfaces, manage corrosion, and maintain steam quality. Treatment must address the complete circuit: make-up water, feedwater, boiler water, steam, and returning condensate. Chemical selection should therefore match water characteristics, operating pressure, and system conditions, alongside effective pretreatment, deaeration, blowdown, and routine monitoring.
02 / RISKS OF AN UNSUITABLE PROGRAM
Scale and deposits can restrict heat transfer and cause local overheating, increasing the risk of tube damage.
Corrosion can affect feedwater, boiler, and condensate systems when dissolved oxygen and water chemistry are not adequately controlled.
Foaming and carryover can contaminate steam and downstream equipment. Inappropriate treatment or poorly controlled blowdown can also increase operating losses and maintenance requirements.
03 / THE HARVEST CHEMICAL PROGRAM
Scale and corrosion control — CALGUARD LB and MB programs are considered according to boiler pressure and water characteristics.
Deposit management — dispersant selection is matched to the deposit challenge, supported by an appropriate blowdown practice.
Oxygen control — OXYGONE oxygen-scavenger options are assessed alongside the feedwater and deaeration system.
Condensate and pH control — treatment addresses the return circuit and water-chemistry requirements of the system.
Program review — operating data and water analyses guide product selection, application requirements, and monitoring. Product grades and treatment parameters are established through technical assessment and relevant product documentation.
04 / START WITH YOUR OPERATING CONDITIONS
Continue to the questionnaire with your boiler type, operating pressure, water source, pretreatment, condensate return, and current treatment information. Available water-analysis results help focus the technical review.
